A BRIEF HISTORY OF TUCSON, ARIZONA
The name derived from the Tohono O'Odham Indian word 'Styuk-sone' meaning at the foot to the black hill.
The land has been continuously settled for more than 12,000 years. Originally an Indian village, Tucson - 'Old Pueblo' - was founded in 1775.
